When we suffer digestive problems, the discomfort is very great and can prevent us from performing daily tasks. In many stomach disorders diarrhea is one of the common symptoms, either acute or chronic. In both cases you can control if we have an adequate diet.
An intestinal disorder can have many causes, but it always originates from the presence of some dangerous element that the body tries to get rid of. Being an aggressive process for the stomach it is important that we modify our eating habits and follow an astringent diet that helps accelerate the process.
Recommended and Advised Foods with Diarrhea
Before a diarrheal process there are foods that we should avoid as much as possible: whole grains, fruit and other foods with fiber that help us go to the bathroom, since they are not necessary in these circumstances; foods that can produce gas such as legumes to prevent irritation of the intestine; spicy, salty or sugary foods as they require more water to dissolve; and finally fatty foods that are difficult to digest.
The diet for diarrhea consists of three phases. First of all, when diarrhea is more intense and especially if it causes vomiting, we can follow a liquid diet of water, alkaline lemonade and some isotonic drinks. It is advisable to drink small drinks every ten minutes, even if you are thirsty you should not abuse it because it can worsen the situation.
When the stomach settles we should start with other liquids such as broth and tea, and then start with some soft solid foods such as rice, cooked potato, grilled chicken or fish, cooked ham, yogurt, skinless apple or banana. Little by little the rest of the foods are introduced, leaving for the end the most aggressive ones such as raw vegetables, legumes, milk and fruit. Remember that fiber should not be abused even if you suffer from constipation, since it is part of the body’s adaptation period.
