As you know, health and food always go hand in hand. If you have a good diet you will have, as a general rule, good health. There are even some diets that can prevent certain diseases, or that help our body avoid major health problems.

One of the main tips is to eat everything, but in moderation. Thus, for centuries many myths have been created around food, and one of the most famous is the one that states that brown sugar is better than white. How right is there in this? What does sugar contribute to the body? Let’s see it!

Reduce sugar consumption

Most important of all, before you start discovering the differences between sugars, you are to reduce your intake. The World Health Organization recommends the intake of 25 gr. daily for a diet of 2,000 kcal, so you have to take care and not exceed that amount. In addition, we must avoid refined sugars at all costs, and industrial pastries made from saturated fats and other ingredients not recommended for our well-being.

Sugar, whether white or brown, has to be on the back burner in our lives. Do not consume too much, because they only provide us with empty calories that do not have beneficial nutrients for our health. And, in addition, they make us fat.

What is brown sugar?

In the manufacturing process of white sugar, the crystals of molasses are usually separated, a kind of “black honey” that is not used for this type of sugar. However, brown sugar does contain this ingredient. In its manufacturing process, molasses is not separated from crystallization, which is why that brown color is obtained.

Brown sugar is unrefined, or partially refined. It is usually marketed as the healthiest because it has a very small amount of vitamins, minerals, and fiber that white sugar does not have. There is also a type of brown sugar, although it is the most complicated to find.

Brown sugar or white sugar?

However, and despite the fact that brown sugar has several vitamins that white lacks, the truth is that both have exactly the same calories. Therefore, choose the one you choose, you must be very careful with the amounts you consume daily. In general, both sugars are not highly recommended for health.

The main differences are in taste and aroma. While white sugar has a sweeter taste, brown is more intense on the palate. This is the main reason why there are some recipes that call for brown sugar, and others white sugar. Its taste is not the same, but its calorie intake is.

In any case, if you still have doubts about buying one or the other, the truth is that you have to find the flavor that best suits your tastes and your needs. And, in addition, you can take into account its price. While white sugar is the cheapest, brown sugar is priced a little higher. And if it is integral, even more. So, whatever you choose, you’re not going to cut calories. You’re just going to change flavors.
